The Jackson's who bought Miss Sandra Gail from their uncle, reflected on a typical day on the water as the crew began about 6:30am where they met at the boat to make preparations to go out. They have to wait for the jelly balls to come up from the bottom ~ the jelly balls are jellyfish that go to the bottom at night and rise to the surface during the day. The jelly balls are tough on the nets, as well as conch and sand dollars.
Brown shrimp are in season and this has been one of the better years. An interesting fact is during full moon tides and big rains, shrimp are flushed out from the rivers and marshes that serve as nursery ares into the ocean. Once the shrimp move into the ocean they grow pretty fast.
During the summer months, Jackson, Miss Sandra Gail and crew can be found shrimping off the Georgia and Florida coastline.
