Golf Lovers ~ Brick Landing to Reopen in October ~
Brick Landing Plantation has a new owner who promises to “bring back the Brick” and make it into a premier golf club in Brunswick County, North Carolina.
Larry P. Doyle, the new owner has brought a whirl of activity to the 25-year-old course that runs along the Intracoastal Waterway and the Sauce Pan Creek Marsh. New greens are in the process of being installed, bunkers, fairways, tees and ponds are receiving a sprucing up.
The greens that are being installed at Brick Landing Plantation are a new kind of grass called Jones Dwarf. Brick Landing is the first course in the Carolinas to have this type of Bermuda grass installed on its greens. “Jones Dwarf has all the benefits of other ultra-dwarfs, lower mowing heights and faster green speeds, but this grass grows in faster and has a denser deep root system and lasts longer than other ultra-dwarfs.
The residents and members of Brick Landing are ecstatic watching the tinges of green appear on the new greens and seeing the sprinklers on in full force with work crews all over the course.
The course is expected to reopen in October. On staff are John DeMatteo, construction superintendent, John Jenkins, golf course superintendent and Joey Godley, golf professional.
The clubhouse that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway is under renovation with plans for an expansion and restoration of the dining facilities.
The good news is Larry Doyle is not a developer, he wants to bring back the social aspect of the golf club and operate Brick Landing as a golf course. Residents are impressed, hopeful, happy and looking forward to his ownership in Brick Landing.
