Be Thankful ~ Our Holiday Enlightenment From Disney World ~

BE THANKFUL

OUR HOLIDAY ENLIGHTENMENT

FROM DISNEY WORLD

To those of you who read and commented on our "Should we feel guilty this Christmas?" blog from last week, we thank you for your support.

We are Disney veterans, this visit marking almost 35 years from our first visit on our honeymoon in 1978. We have visited Disney World at least a dozen times over the years with our two children, family and friends but this was the first time since our initial visit in 1978 that we were there sans kids, family and friends.

It was wonderful, but very, very crowded and although we had been there during most seasons and had braved the crowds of summer and various other holidays, we had never been there on Christmas Day.

We had 4 day passes from the 23-26 and had already decided that we were going to wait until Christmas Day to visit the Magic Kingdom to watch the Disney Christmas Parade live for the first time.

The atmosphere was electric, comparable to a big time sporting event like the Superbowl or World Series or maybe even the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

One of the things we love about the Disney Corporation is their dedication to excellent customer service. From the highest level of management all the way to the vendors, ride operators and cleaning personnel, they are all friendly and courteous to a fault.

Another thing we love about Disney is their commitment to the disabled and handicapped. They go above and beyond to accommodate every person, no matter the age, who has special needs.

We saw very many handicapped children while we were there but we met one, who along with his sister, really touched our hearts. He was about 3 or 4 years old, in a wheelchair and had braces on both legs.  He had just come from "The Pirates League" where they make you up as a pirate. We told him he was the scariest pirate we had ever seen and he responded with a hearty AARGH! and a big grin. His sister, a year or two older was also made up as a pirate and we asked her why she wasn't dressed as one of the many Disney Princesses like all the other little girls and she responded "because I want to be like my brother".

Wow, time for a reality check.

What disability, these kids were having the time of their lives.

This is the time of year people like to make lists. Lists of resolutions for the new year. Lists of goals for the new year. Lists of the best or worst of last year.

Here's our list for the new year, ready for it?
1. Be thankful.

That's it. Even if we don't have everything, let's be thankful for the things we do have. If you have good health, be thankful, if you have good friends, be thankful, if you have loving family, be thankful. Just be thankful to be you.
